But there is no suitable replacement knob for microwaving. All the available replacement knobs use a metal screw and a threaded metal insert inside the knob for attachment. The microwave radiation heats the metal inside the knob to a very high temperature, sufficient to melt or even vaporize the plastic; in the latter case, the gas pressure inside the knob can cause it to explode. How do I know that?A perfect lid for microwaving would be glass or ceramic with an integral glass or ceramic knob. There are many such casserole sets, but there are no 12″ frying pan/baking dish lids; the de-knobbed Ozeri is the best solution I’ve found. |
