This product was uploaded on Have used the Kizen instant read thermometer for the past few months with some mixed results. The thermometer does give an accurate reading and is easy to use. It’s also durable and easy to clean. The magnetic backing is also a nice feature as it is easy to stick places and not have to reach to find it. My problem with the Kizen instant read thermometer is that it isn’t at all “instant” or even fast. I purchased it knowing I wanted a very fast thermometer so I could probe meat in my smoker and get quick readings while holding the door open. Heat and smoke are precious when cooking and I hate to have to hold the door open longer than necessary so that’s why I picked the Kizen – knowing its claim of reading in 2-3 seconds. From my experience, the thermometer climbs a bit slowly for 5-7 seconds before providing a reading, sometimes longer. Watching it climb 135, 142, 155, 164, 169, 170, 173, 174… and then probing different areas in the meat, or different pieces of meat, really is a killer. Just doing the math, if I have to probe 5 times and it takes 7 seconds per probe, I have the smoker door open for more than half a minute, easy. If it did just take 2-3 seconds, I’d have the door open for only a third as long and thats what I had hoped for when I bought the Kizen model. For open pan grilling I’ll continue to use it but for my grill / smoker, I’m going to be looking for something else, something faster.. We have explored the internet to get the best prices available.
