Can someone tell me what the point of a rice cooker is, especially one with Fuzzy Logic, if you still have to figure out how much water to use and how long to cook it? I am now on my fifth batch of rice (three brown, two white) and I have yet to have achieved fluffy, non mushy rice.Note this is a very small unit. If you want 10 cups of rice for your family meal, this is not what you are looking for. This is good for 1-2 people only, which is great for me as I’m only cooking for two. The cooker is very cute, sleek and doesn’t take up much space on the countertop. I like everything about the look/controls.The problem comes with the actual cooking. It’s not that the manufacturer doesn’t tell you what to do. They provide you a cup to measure the rice and there are lines inside the pot that show you, once your rice is in the pot, how much water to add. It’s just that their measurements don’t seem to be correct.I had one semi-successful batch of brown rice using the water line indication but, when you set the unit for brown rice, the cooker automatically defaults to 35 minutes. One would assume that’s how long it takes to cook the rice, right? That’s what I thought so that’s what I did. But no! Take a look at the cook time chart that comes with rice cooker. It states one cup of brown rice cook time is 35-90 minutes. 35-90 minutes? That’s a huge time difference! My best batch – still not perfect – I used the water recommended but cooked it for 90 minutes.So far, I have not had a successful enough batch of white rice to even give tips to anyone. The water line indicator seems to be too much. The white rice cook time defaults to 25 minutes. My cook time has been more like 60 minutes.I’ve been so busy cooking/throwing away rice that I haven’t had the time – or the courage – to even try quinoa or oats.I really hate giving bad reviews but, I mean, maybe I’m wrong about what a rice cooker is supposed to do. I thought it was a set it and forget it kind of deal. If I have to do all this guesswork, then I may as well just cook it the old-fashioned way, in a pot on my stovetop.Unfortunately, I got rid of the box this came in so no return for me. I’ll eat the $45 and send this off to Goodwill. |
